History of Sigler Elementary

Portrait of Mr. Sigler.

Emory Alvin Sigler was born in Lewisville in 1897 and raised there. After graduating from high school, he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from what is now the University of North Texas and completed post-graduate coursework at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Following World War I, Sigler taught in Celina and Frisco, where he also served as a high school principal.

In 1927, Sigler was appointed Superintendent of Plano ISD. Throughout his career, he served on numerous state and national educational committees, contributing to the advancement of public education.

In 1961, after 34 years as superintendent, Sigler “retired” to become Plano ISD’s first director of business services, a role he held for seven years. He and his wife, Mary, whom he married in 1921, had two sons, E.A. Jr. and Jimmy. Sigler died in 1994.

Sigler Elementary opened in 1964 and was expanded with additions in 1970 and 1992.
